Fascias

Fascia boards is the architectural term for a vertical frieze or band under a roof edge which forms the outer surface of a cornice, visible to an observer. Simply put they are the long straight boards that run around the lower edge of the roof. They usually carry all of the gutters and support the lower edge of your roof tiles.

This means that they need to be strong enough to resist the battering from torrential rain - when a typical 3-bed semi may behave to deal with several gallons of water a second flooding into the gutter.

Bargeboards

Bargeboards are the boards on a projecting gable that give them strength, protection and that conceal the end of the horizontal timbers. The appearance of the bargeboard often determines the look or appeal of the whole house. a wide range of creative and attractive shapes are available.

Soffits

Soffits are the material that forms a ceiling from the top of an outside of a house wall to the outer edge of the roof. They are tucked away under the fascia board. These can be either be directly ventilated or, increasingly commonly, air is allowed to flow over the top. This ventilation is designed to prevent condensation in the roof area which would increasing the risk of mould, damp and timber decay.
